Zapier vs Make vs n8n for small-business automation

A practical comparison of Zapier, Make and n8n for small businesses: ease of use, cost at volume and data control.

Zapier

The easiest to learn, with the widest library of app connections. Best when workflows are simple and volume is moderate. Costs can climb as you run more tasks.

Make

A visual builder that handles branching logic, loops and data transformations well, usually at a lower cost per run. Slightly steeper to learn, very capable for multi-step processes.

n8n

Open-source and self-hostable, so data can stay on a server you control, and high volume doesn’t raise per-run costs. It needs someone technical to host and maintain it.

How we choose

We start with your volume, budget, the apps involved and how sensitive the data is. Plenty of businesses use two: Zapier for quick connections and Make or n8n for the heavier workflows.
